President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his speech on June 25, claimed that there were no natural disasters in the country during the previous government’s tenure between 2015 - 2016. This claim to be false as Sri Lanka had faced devastating floods and other disasters during the time.Sri Lanka had faced severe floods in 2016, 2017, 2018 while the devastating Aranayake landslide took place in 2016 resulting in the deaths of 127 people. The country also faced severe droughts in 2017 seen here and here as well and was called the worst drought the country had seen in 40 years.
