In a recent news segment WION, an Indian multinational English language news channel, claimed Basil Rajapaksa was prohibited from contesting in the 2020 general election due to allegations of corruption.
Rajapaksa was not able to contest due to the restrictions imposed on dual citizens from contesting in Sri Lankan elections through the 19th amendment to the constitution.
There are no concrete evidence to support this allegation.
