Several newspapers had reported that the land next to the north entrance of the Jethawanaramaya stupa was bulldozed on the 7th October, in order to build a car park. An official of the Central Cultural Fund (CCF) had stated that the Director General of the CCF has given permission for the construction: https://mawbima.lk/news-more/88857. Jethawanaramaya stupa is said to be the largest brick structure in the world and is located in a UNESCO World Heritage site.
