Photographs of a broken Catholic religious statue along with reports claiming a person had purposely damaged and destroyed it at a Church in Kalptiya have been making the rounds on social media. It was also reported by mainstream media outlets. A senior official of the Sri Lanka Police media unit confirmed that this incident had in fact taken place and was not a false report of information. This news was not reported in many of the mainstream news agencies.
