Here is why -
Social media posts had claimed that now a "vaccine card" can be obtained legally after undergoing a certain ayurvedic treatment. They further claimed that people who possess this card do not need to take the COVID-19 vaccine. The advertised card had the title "The assurance of immunity modulation to optimum levels against SARS - CoV-2 virus and its variants" and appeared to have been issued by one "Ropa Ayurvedic Hospital" registered under the Department of Ayurveda Sri Lanka. Since proof of vaccine is now required to enter most of the public spaces, and there is a talk of taking legal action against those who go to public places without being vaccined, these posts had gained traction online. An external fact checker had checked the validity of these claims with Dr. Dhammika Abeygunawardena, Commissioner of Ayurveda, who confirmed that the Department of Ayurveda has authorized no one to issue such cards and that there is no ayurvedic treatment which can replace vaccines, even though there are 14 registered ayurvedic treatments which improve the immunity.
