Here is why -
Amith Weerasinghe, leader of the Sinhala nationalist group "Mahason Balakaya" claimed on YouTube that separate coroners had been appointed to areas with high Muslim populations. Issuing a special media release, the Ministry of Justice refused this claim. The media release stated that no change has been made to the existing procedure, which includes the appointment of coroners belonging to multi-ethnicities in 88 identified multi-ethnic regional areas, as per a recommendation made in 2018 by an expert committee. This recommendation had been made to address the difficulties faced by the Muslim community in burying their dead within 24 hours.
